Part 1
A more in-depth, expanded and pre-recorded version of the live Masterclass. We begin with a general overview of saints, their importance for the faithful and how a system developed in which they can be quickly and easily identified. This is followed by a look at three very important saints who were close to Jesus, as well as a consideration of several saints whose stories are particularly grisly, saints who are known as Christian martyrs.
Part 2
In the second part of this Masterclass, we expand our knowledge of saints in art by learning about the Four Evangelists, two plague saints, and two female saints who met rather unfortunate ends. We also look at the inclusion and meaning of donors in art, as well as an example of how certain saints and the works of art in which they appear can tell us about a particular period or event.
